LTFRB: Fare hike should not exceed one peso

Land Transportation, Franchising and Regulatory Board (LTFRB) Spokesperson Aileen Lizada makes it clear to jeepney drivers that the maximum amount of fare increase is strictly one peso.

She says, the LTFRB does not allow additional hikes for routes that exceed more than four kilometers.

“Wala pong patong para sa susunod na mga kilometro (no additional charge for the next kilometers),” she stresses.

She adds, “kung 25 pesos po ang pamasahe, P 26 lang po ang bagong pamasahe (if the old fare is P 25, the new fare is only P 26).”

Lizada tells drivers that the 20% discount for students, senior citizens and persons with disabilities (PWDs) is in effect.

The one-peso jeepney fare increase begins today (Friday) and it covers Metro Manila, Central Luzon and Southern Tagalog.
