Rody insists on Trillanes' bank accounts

OPPOSITION Senator Antonio Trillanes IV was wrong when he claimed the alleged bank accounts were not his, even if he had flown to Singapore to disprove them, President Rodrigo Duterte has said.

In a speech before Davao-based journalists Friday, Duterte questioned the way Trillanes was able to disprove all of his allegations.

The President warned it was only a matter of time before he revealed the real bank records of Trillanes.

“I know he’ll take the bait. It’s already there, close to reality. He saw the numbers. It was just a matter of number 1. So he knows I’m going there,” he added.

Duterte said  “no bank” would take Trillanes’ bait to certify that he did not have the supposed bank accounts—reason why his claims were useless.

“I said well in advance that I will reveal the deposits. Just you wait. And the names of the partners, I will reveal it (sic), including his accounts,” Duterte said.

“His purported certification he said he got from the bank, the bank will never do that. No bank in the Philippines would ever do that,” he added in a mix of Filipino and English.

Last Tuesday, Trillanes went to the DBS branch in Singapore’s Alexandra Road with a printout of a supposed account registered under his father’s name.

A DBS teller, however, said there was no such account at their bank.

Trillanes then tried but failed to get a certification from DBS because he was not a client.

The opposition lawmaker then went to the Raffles City Tower to check business listings for the “Hongkong Shanghai Bank,” where he also allegedly concealed account with a balance of some SGD 278,000, but found no bank there.

Later that day, Duterte admitted “inventing” the wrong number of Trillanes’ supposed  bank accounts in Singapore to “catch” the senator for lying.

Duterte, however, said Trillanes’ actual account number was 11780-00281-60-2 and not 1780-00296-01-2 as what he claimed, and was eventually reported and picked up by the media.

He also alleged that the loss of the Scarborough Shoal to the Chinese had led to the accumulation of alleged ill-gotten wealth by Trillanes in his supposed off-shore bank accounts.

In the same speech, Duterte slammed the senator on his track record of “lying.”
