AlDub still the most popular love team

The tandem of Alden Richards and Maine Mendoza, otherwise known as AlDub, is still the hottest onscreen pair in the country as far as Google Search is concerned.

After dominating the Google Philippines’ “Year in Search” report in 2015, AlDub has proven once more that its popularity online is still unmatched in 2016.  For one, in the search categories listed by the California-based technology company, there are no other local showbiz stars or love teams that appeared, not even in the individual categories that named the most searched male and female personalities in the land.

On the list topped by reigning Miss Universe Pia Wurtzbach, Maine Mendoza ranked second as the most searched female personality in the country. Alden Richards, on the other hand, is the sixth most searched male personality in 2016. The list, which puts President Rodrigo Duterte as no. 1, is dominated by Korean superstars Song Joong Ki (no. 2) and Gong Yoo (no. 4).

Alden and Maine, apart from Pia Wurtzbach, are the only local celebrities that made it to Google Philippines’ list of most searched male and female personalities

Meanwhile, in the “Who is…?” search category, the search term “who is Aldub?” ranked second to Harley Quinn, the fictional supervillain appearing in American comic books published by DC Comics, and in the box office hit film, The Death Squad.

Alden and Maine made headlines early this month when GMA Network announced that the onscreen couple would finally star in a television series, the only project that they can’t include in their resume yet as a love team. The two are set to star in their very first primetime series, Destined To Be Yours scheduled next year.

If in case this primetime soap would be successful and generate interest among TV viewers, AlDub will likely still dominate 2017, that is if Google Trends is really that reliable in terms of measuring someone’s success and popularity. Remember, Pokemon Go that triggered worldwide craze is the most searched term in 2016 but it’s not the top income generating app.

Among the best

When someone from the Philippines says that the Filipino singers are among the best in the world, we might still doubt this claim. However, when it came from someone who didn’t know that Karaoke singing is in our DNA, then this claim is painted with some sense of credibility.

Case in point, The Voice Global, a YouTube channel that curates the best and most outstanding performances from The Voice and The Voice Kids worldwide, has named The Voice Kids Philippines Season 3 contestant Sharla Cerilles from Parañaque as one of the best auditions in The Voice Kids.

The Voice Global with almost 400,000 subscribers and which videos have more than 100 million views to date has selected the best of the best from the singing competitions’ international franchises. From a total of 60 franchises all over the world, Cerilles landed in the third spot for the best blind auditions.

Cerilles was in Sharon Cuneta’s camp in the local edition of the talent show. She was later eliminated during the Sing-Off round when Cuneta picked Antonetthe Tismo, who ended as the season’s first runner-up.

In second spot is another young Filipino talent named Lukas Janisch. The 13-year-old Filipino-Austrian won The Voice Kids Germany earlier this year and during the blind audition, he sang his own rendition of Alicia Keys’ 2001 hit “Fallin’,” while he’s on the piano.

The video uploaded by the channel on Dec. 16, completes the list of best blind audition for The Voice Kids with franchises in Peru, Lebanon, Russia, Brazil, Vietnam, Ukraine, Thailand, Germany and Indonesia.

It’s fun watching the video because it tells us how Filipino talents can go head to head with the rest of the world. The only downside of the video is, it also tells us how cheap looking the set for the local franchise is compared to the franchises mentioned above.
