GSIS Furies claim 1st win; Senate stuns PNP

THE GSIS Furies claimed its first win of the season after toppling the Commission on Audit Enablers, 105–83, in the UNTV Cup 6 Sunday at the Pasig City Sports Arena.

Led by Best Player of the Game Rene Boy Banzali, the Furies now have a 1-2 record, while the Enablers are still winless after four games.

Meanwhile, the Malacañang-PSC Kamao retained its clean slate after beating the DA Food Masters, 91–78.

The COA Enablers’ Estong Ballesteros elects to pass as GSIS Furies’ Anthony Cuevas hounds him on defense during their teams’ UNTV Cup game at the Pasig City Sports Center.

The Food Masters dominated the second and third quarters, but the Kamao intensified its offense in the last quarter and snatched the lead until the final buzzer.

“Kailangan ko ma-address ko ang problemang iyan na slow start.

I told them na, ‘Guys, remember finalist tayo last year tapos wala pa tayo talo this season. Suwerte pa kami sa ngayon dahil every time we decided to play, buti nakakalusot kami,” Kamao head coach Louie Gonzales admitted.

On the other hand, Food Masters’ coach Zaldy Realubit believes that his players should intensify their endurance, individually and collectively.

“Hindi ko alam kung ubos na kami, pagod na kami. Hindi na namin nagawa ang dapat naming gawin sa fourth quarter. So tingin ko more practice pa kami,” Realubit said.

In another game, Harley Ng and Jeffrey Sanders were hailed as the Best Players of the Game after leading the Senate Defenders to a 68–56 win over the PNP Defenders, who suffered their first loss in the league of public servants.

Senate Defenders’ head coach Mike Fermin said: “Almost two weeks break kami for this game. So with that two-weeks break, siguro nakatatlo o apat na ensayo kami diyan. Pinagpreparahan talaga namin ito. So we worked on our offensive sets kasi ang depensa meron naman. Pero ang offensive sets namin nagkakaroon kami ng problema—walang identity—nagkakanya-kanya kung minsan. So nag-devote kami ng much time doon.”
