Pandoo Nation/Singapore stuns local team, wins title

DAVID Goodman struck with four goals to lead Pandoo Nation of Singapore to a 7-2 beating of local squad Island Red on Saturday night.

His big game in the final round gave Filipinos a chance to see how tough and fun the game is, allowing the Singaporean-based team to claim the crown in the Philippine International Ice Hockey tournament at the SM Megamall.

The Singapore squad stepped on the gas right from the start, hitting four goals in the first period with Goodwin making two separate markers in the 12-minute first period.

“We had a blast. We had a ton of fun,” said the 28-year-old Goodwin, who is part of a marketing arm of an online game developer.

Filipinos got a glimpse of what to expect in international competitions since ice hockey is a new sport in the Philippines, said their team captain Anthony Blass.

While Goodwin hit the first goal in the last 8:04 of the initial period, Rob Martini and Peter Nesbit followed up in the remaining 5:13 and 3:15, respectively.

Sy awarded the trophies to the winners, together with Edgar Tejero, president of SM Lifestyle and Entertainment, Inc. and Steve Hontiveros, the secretary-general of Philippine Olympic Committee.
