PH Sports Institute suggests more coaching clinics in Luzon
TABUK City—More coaching clinics and seminars will have to be conducted in the northern Luzon region.
Officials of the Philippine Sports Commission said this after they experienced a big turnout during their three-day seminar and clinics ended Thursday in Tabuk City, Kalinga.
“So far, Marami ang nag-participate. Ngayon, more than 200,” said Edwin Llanes, who is the Philippine Sports Institute’s coordinator for Northern Luzon.
Many teachers from the public schools showed interest and validated the need to push for the scientific method of training student athletes.
This week, the PSI, under national training director Marc Edward Velasco, dispatched coaches and sports science specialists and experts to the provinces of Vigan, Abra, Kalinga, Ifugao and Isabela.
The coaches and sports science specialists, who were sent shared their knowledge on the proper coaching techniques during a series of lectures.
Around 200 attended in the Kalinga area, 186 showed up for the Abra lectures and 190 came to the Vigan event in Ilocos Sur.
The PSI’s seminars helped the provinces improve on their grassroots sports program.
All three provinces are currently preparing their athletes to join a provincial meet this October and a regional meet in February.
The coming 2018 Palarong Pambansa is among the national meets that they are preparing for.
